Tax Planning, Not Tax Returns

Meridian's tax planning specialists model the multi-year tax consequences of every major financial decision — and coordinate with your CPA so the result on your return reflects what we planned.

How We Help

Withdrawal Sequencing

We model the order in which you draw from taxable, tax-deferred, and Roth assets in retirement — typically reducing lifetime taxes paid by 8–20% relative to a naïve approach. Results depend on individual circumstances and are not guaranteed.

Roth Conversion Analysis

We evaluate partial Roth conversions during low-income years (post-retirement, pre-RMD) and model the break-even horizon under a range of future tax assumptions.

Concentrated Stock Planning

For clients with large positions in employer stock, founder shares, or inherited holdings, we model diversification strategies that account for embedded gains, lock-up periods, AMT exposure, and QSBS treatment where applicable.

Charitable Strategy

Donor-advised funds, qualified charitable distributions, charitable remainder trusts, and gifts of appreciated securities — sized to your tax bracket and giving goals.

Tax-Loss Harvesting

Systematic harvesting across your taxable portfolios, with attention to wash sale rules across all your accounts (and your spouse's) and to the long-term cost-basis consequences of frequent harvesting.

Coordination With Your CPA

Tax planning works only if it gets implemented on your return. We coordinate directly with the CPA or enrolled agent who prepares your taxes — typically through a planning memo each fall and a working call before year-end. If you do not currently work with a tax preparer, we are happy to make introductions; we disclose any referral relationships in writing.

What This Costs

Tax planning is included in our comprehensive financial planning engagement and is part of the asset-based advisory fee for ongoing portfolio management clients. We do not charge separately for it, and we do not earn fees from any tax product, software, or platform we recommend.
